The largest governing body/association for UK HCPC registered Chiropodists & Podiatrists, the society or SOCAP as it is otherwise known has over 10’000 active health care professions council registered members and is based in tower bridge road London.
Formed in 1954 from the pre existing 5 chiropody associations, the oldest of which was formed in 1912, the main focus of the society is to promote the benefits of podiatry to the wider public and support chiropodists and podiatrists. It is also a government registered trade union.
The society board consists of 24 elected members and fellows from a broad range of podiatry disciplines; the current chief executive is Joanna Brown who took over in June 2012 from Professor Stuart Baid.
The society has a distinctive grant of arms awarded in 1946, which incorporates a scallop shell, a burning torch, and a rod with a single snake. It also took on from the previous society of chiropodists motto “Post Curam Otium” which translates to ease after care.
