SEERS Medical CLINNOVA Podiatry Couch Review

Last Updated May 2, 2019 By Adrian

The SEERS Medical CLINNOVA podiatry couch will be officially launched at Foot Heath Kettering on the 18th of June 2019 and represents the long evolution of successful podiatry couches from SEERS Medical.

Simon Rees and the team at SEERS kindly allowed us to visit to get a sneak peek at the new CLINNOVA range and specifically the top of the range podiatry couch.

From first impressions this is arguably the most advanced podiatry couch of it’s type. The CLINNOVA range is a modular design offering all the features you could want to create a modern podiatry couch. With some exciting new additions!

The version you see above has a full set of motors including up/down, tilt, backrest and leg rests all operated on a newly designed hand control.

It has an almost vertical lifting system covered in a minimalist plastic shroud. The right & left leg rests also have the new calf support pads which can be removed and stored conveniently under the couch.

The image above only shows the right leg rest fitted on this model.

Using all of their experience with the medicare and therapy ranges, SEERS have produced a truly exceptional modular couch which boasts some of the most advanced features of any Podiatry couch in the market.

Key CLINNOVA Features

  • Fully modular design for all budgets and requirements
  • Low transfer height & hoist access for less mobile patients
  • Safe working load of 265kg (up-gradable to 285kg on deluxe models)
  • Split electric leg rests – A first for a couch of this type in the UK.
  • Anti entrapment gas struts
  • Hand or Foot control option
  • Infection control designed shrouding and upholstery

Options, Options and more options!

Whilst not a new concept, the amount of choices the practitioner has with this couch is quite a few, and that’s before the 15 colour choices you get to choose from!

For those podiatrists starting out or wanting a simple solution, the CLINNOVA range can be ordered with a bare minimum of features, without compromising on build quality.

Clinnova Base Model With Arms

The base model offers a single electric motor for height adjustment, a manual backrest and manual (gas strut assisted) leg rest. Side loops as shown are included for arm support.

The great thing about this couch is the ability to upgrade it as new features are needed. All the frames are pre drilled to enable the practitioner to add additional options.

TOP TIP: With the new modular system it’s best to speak to a sales representative to make sure the model offered by a supplier meets your needs.

What about the leg rests?

Clinnova Leg Rests

One of the most exciting features of the CLINNOVA is the option for electric split leg rests. A first for a podiatry couch in the UK.

In the past offering electric leg rests on a podiatry couch has had its problems. Quality of motors and design flaws have meant electric leg rests have not been an option many manufacturers considered, until now.

One of the common criticisms was: “what if the leg rest motor failed?” whilst this is a valid concern, the quality of the motors have improved greatly over the years and the rates of failure have dropped.

As with any component on a podiatry couch it is recommended that a routine annual service is carried out by a qualified engineer with a suitable service plan in place if the couch is deemed essential. This will avoid high one off service calls, especially if your couch is older.

One of the other innovative aspect is the new removable middle calf section on the leg rest.

This feature offers the practitioner additional length to the leg section and improved accessibility to parts of the foot and ankle.

The middle calf section has a magnetic backing making it easy to secure to the underside of the frame until needed.

Infection Control & Upholstery

As one of the leading suppliers to both the private and NHS markets, infection control is at the heart of all SEERS designs.

Along with a antimicrobial powder coated stove enamelled base, the upholstery is anti bacterial as standard.

All of the backings on the couches are now staple-less.. With a shrouded durable ABS plastic cover.

For those wanting a quicker cleaning process can opt for the base shroud. This reduces small crevices with larger easily wiped surfaces.

A new enclosed backing system removes the need for visible staples and cloth backing found on UK produced couches.

Additional Considerations

  • Lifetime frame warranty
  • 5 Year parts warranty
  • SEERS provide products to over 80 countries around the world
  • SEERS are accredited to the latest Medical Devices Quality Management System standard โ€“ ISO 13485:2016
  • Standard models available as option with additional memory foam upholstery, deluxe models included as standard.
  • Head support cushions available as option with standard models, deluxe models included as standard.

Summary

A good quality podiatry couch kept in good condition can last many years and the new CLINNOVA range looks to be following in that tradition.

With a rock solid design and cutting edge features this couch is the ideal option for a modern podiatry clinic.

Check out the couch at the upcoming Kettering foot health conference on 18th of June.
