ZeroSole Insole Review

Disclaimer

This is not a paid review; however, the supplier provided a free sample of the Zerosole insoles for the purpose of this review.

The Zerosole reliever insole is an innovative product designed to provide a minimalist experience while delivering essential support and cushioning for those who need relief from pressure-induced foot lesions. With its ultra-thin design and customizable removable ‘cells’ that enable direct offloading (such as for corns/calluses and other pressure-induced lesions, the Zerosole insole offers a unique solution for individuals seeking comfort and protection without compromising the natural feel of barefoot walking.

Technical Specifications

  • Material: Zerosole insoles are constructed from a blend of high-quality, durable materials, including memory foam and a breathable mesh top layer. This combination ensures comfort while maintaining a slim profile.
  • Thickness: At the thickest section, containing the removable cells, it’s 5mm. At the forefoot section it’s just 2mm thick, the Zerosole insole is quite thin, making it suitable for most shoe types without altering the fit.
  • Arch Support: The insole offers moderate arch support, suitable for those with mild to moderate pronation issues.
  • Breathability: The top layer is designed to wick away moisture, keeping feet dry and comfortable during extended wear.
  • Durability: The insole’s materials are engineered for durability, withstanding regular use without losing shape or support.

Pros

  1. Minimalistic Design: The ultra-thin profile of the Zerosole insole ensures it doesn’t alter the fit of shoes, making it an excellent option for those who prefer a barefoot feel but still need some cushioning.
  2. Comfortable: The memory foam layer offers excellent cushioning, providing a comfortable experience even during prolonged use.
  3. Versatile: Suitable for various activities, from everyday walking to light athletic use, fitting easily into most types of shoes. The customised removable cells enable direct offloading. A unique approach.
  4. Breathable: The breathable mesh top layer helps keep feet cool and dry, reducing the risk of blisters and discomfort.
  5. Lightweight: The insole adds virtually no extra weight to footwear, preserving the natural movement of the feet.

Cons

  1. Limited Arch Support: While offering some level of arch support, it may not be sufficient for individuals with severe pronation or other significant foot issues.
  2. Durability Over Time: The ultra-thin design may not last as long as thicker, more supportive options, particularly under heavy use.
  3. Lack of Cushioning for High-Impact Activities: The minimal cushioning might not be adequate for high-impact sports or for individuals who require substantial shock absorption.

Research Analysis and Review

ATiC Research Study

A study conducted by the Assistive Technologies Innovation Centre (ATiC) at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David evaluated the effectiveness of the Zerosole insole in offloading plantar pressure. The study involved 15 healthy participants and used advanced pressure mapping technology to assess the insole’s impact on foot pressure distribution.

The results showed that the Zerosole insole effectively reduced pressure in targeted areas by 23% to 32% compared to wearing normal shoes, without affecting gait. This finding is significant for individuals looking to prevent or manage foot lesions like corns and calluses. The study also highlighted the insole’s cushioning effect, which further contributes to its therapeutic value.

Cardiff Metropolitan University Clinical Evaluation

A more extensive clinical evaluation was carried out by Cardiff Metropolitan University to assess the Zerosole insole’s effectiveness in a real-world setting. This study focused on reducing pain and managing plantar foot lesions over a six-week period.

The findings were compelling:

  • Pain Reduction: The study found a statistically significant reduction in pain both at the baseline and at the six-week follow-up, confirming the insole’s therapeutic potential.
  • Lesion Size: While the study did not find a statistically significant reduction in lesion size, a clinically noteworthy decrease was observed, suggesting that prolonged use might yield more substantial results.
  • User Experience: Participants reported high levels of comfort, with minimal issues related to fit and wear. The insole was easy to insert into footwear, and no significant wear and tear were reported.

Conclusion

The research from both ATiC and Cardiff Metropolitan University provides comprehensive evidence supporting the Zerosole insole’s effectiveness in reducing plantar pressure and improving comfort. While it may not be the best option for those needing substantial arch support or cushioning for high-impact activities, its minimalist design, combined with its therapeutic benefits, makes it an excellent choice for everyday use, particularly for individuals with pressure-induced foot lesions.

Final Thoughts

The Zerosole insole offers a balanced approach to minimalist footwear solutions, providing comfort, support, and a customizable offloading solution that addresses specific pressure points. Its combination of innovative design and practical benefits makes it a significant addition to the field of foot care, especially for those seeking a natural feel without sacrificing comfort or protection.
